COESI „Change Organisations to enable Social Inclusion“
Social inclusion is one of the basic principles of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities: they should be able to actively participate in society and build relationships with other people. Disability organisations can support the process of social inclusion and thus face new challenges: In addition to the task of providing support, safety and protection for people with disabilities, they should promote their participation in society and the building of relationships. Person-centred work has proven to be a good instrument to fulfil these tasks in the interest of the accompanied people. This is because the person is in the foreground and one goal is to assume a valued role in society. For organisations, this means: a change from generally oriented services to individual support offers for more self-determination and social inclusion is necessary. The COESI project aimed to promote this process of change in organisations providing support for people with disabilities. COESI started at different levels and involved managers, staff and people with disabilities in the elaboration and development of the project results. Their know-how and expertise are of great value to the project.
